Group thinking
in this world there will be always ‘us’ against ‘them’.
Here at Kunsthochschule Weißensee:
It struck me a bit odd that my group members here think I’m overly helpful. It didn’t take much time at all to help them, but this contributes to what I’ve been noticing here at this school: the individual is celebrated more than a group. I should say there are no groups here; each person is against them all.
Some other supports to my observation:
- When I was talking to a couple of students on their electric bike concept, they were hesitant to tell me as if I would steal their idea; ultimately they didn’t show me their project.
- If one walks into the workshop there is a large sign that says no picture taking.
Back at my homeschool, University of Cincinnati:
What makes UCID12 special is that we think of it as “us” against everyone else. We recognize that if we help each other we will get stronger against “them” than if we worked only to be better against each one of us. It goes without saying, groups are stronger & more resilient.
UCID12, I think we’re gonna be great. :D
