slow mail
There should be a website, focused on keeping in contact with friends and family that delays emails for periods of time. This would slow down the back & forth between people’s messages.
Writing emails takes time. Sending them back and forth makes the connection between to people heavy to carry. It seems nowadays its either, reply immediately or somethings wrong with the relationship. Emails awaiting replies is just an inbox filled with anxiety.
Adding a delay would:
-have people expects a slower reply
-create richer content collected during the amount of time that has passed
-help people keep connections while not requiring an exorbitant amount
Why twitter doesn’t work:
-messages too short
-quick response expectations
Why E-Mail doesn’t work:
-e-mails happen instantly
-too much junk
-isn’t orientated around keeping connections
Why instant chat doesn’t work:
-inherently active; too fast, no room for passive communication
Facebook is close but:
-the ‘wall’ doesn’t warrant personal contact
-personal messages are bogged down by event & app messages; spam
Slow mail (USPS) works but:
-dosen’t have the ability to promote lasting connections built-in
Who should do it? the USPS!
They’ve been suffering since the advent of emails. They should create a service focused on keeping lasting connections with personal contacts. The messages would be delayed depending on how long it would actually take for a physical messages. This would get USPS into the game of sending digital messages without being just another me-too, competing with already established email services, such as gmail or ymail.
